The AAI said that as on June 29, the process of changing the branding and display was underway at Lucknow and Mangalore airports and has been completed at Ahmedabad airport. PTI-Bhasha has various documents related to the matter, including information received in response to RTI queries.

Group won bids for operation of three airports

Adani Group won the bids to run the above three airports in February 2019. Its companies – Adani Lucknow International Airport Limited (ALIAL), Adani Mangaluru International Airport Limited (AMIAL) and Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Limited (AAIAL) signed a concession agreement with AAI in February 2020. These companies took over the airports in October and November 2020.

AAI found the branding and display at the three airports not in accordance with the concession agreements in December 2020. Therefore, writing a letter to the three companies asking them to take ‘corrective measures’. However, these companies replied in late December that they had not violated the branding norms under the agreements. A month later, the AAI constituted three separate committees to conduct a joint survey of all the hoardings and displays at the three airports.

Each committee had four members—an executive from the Adani Group company, which is running the airport, an officer from the Centre-run Engineering Projects (India) Limited, and two AAI officials. The committee, in its investigation, found that the terms of the agreement had been violated.

Change made after the matter of infringement

In this regard, PTI-language asked the Adani group whether it agreed with the findings of these three committees and whether it had completed the work of changing the display and branding at the three airports. In response, an Adani Group spokesperson said, “We are proud to partner with AAI… AAI and Adani Airport have mutually agreed upon airports on common-branding and other aspects.” He further said that as per the agreement, the logos of both the authority and the operator will be displayed together in the same size.

In an RTI reply, the AAI said that changes are being made to the branding and hoardings at Lucknow and Mangaluru airports, while the branding and hoardings at Ahmedabad airports are as per the terms of the agreement.
