WWE TLC:James Ellsworth costs Dean Ambrose WWE World Title

0

James Ellsworth performed a stunning double cross to shatter Dean Ambrose’s hopes of regaining the WWE World Title at TLC.

Ambrose had helped Ellsworth secure three unlikely wins over WWE World Champion AJ Styles in recent weeks and also attacked The Phenomenal One after he launched a vicious assault on the underdog on Tuesday’s Smackdown.

Ellsworth, therefore, seemed set to assist Ambrose when he came to the ring during Sunday night’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match, especially once Styles tried to clatter him with a Styles Clash.

However, Ellsworth staggered fans in Dallas by shoving Ambrose off a ladder – and through three tables at ringside – as The Lunatic Fringe looked poised to unhook the belt hanging above.

Ellsworth’s interjection allowed Styles – competing in his first TLC Match in WWE – to scale a ladder and grab the belt he won from Ambrose at the Backlash pay-per-view in September.

Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan later revealed that Ellsworth will face Styles for the WWE World Championship on Smackdown on Tuesday night, a bout he earned by besting Styles in Ladder Match in November.

Styles and Ambrose put on a stunning bout before the late drama – Ambrose elbow dropping Styles through one announce desk when he jumped off a ladder set up on another a particular highlight.

Ambrose also sent Styles careering through a pile of chairs with a spinning suplex, while Styles thundered the former Shield man through a table courtesy of a picture-perfect 450 Splash.

Two new champions were crowned inside the American Airlines Center – Alexa Bliss downing Becky Lynch in a Tables Match to claim the Smackdown Women’s Title and Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt knocking off Tag Team Champions Heath Slater and Rhyno.

Bliss, whose victory landed her a first title in WWE, powerbombed Lynch through the timber from the ring apron to end the Irishwoman’s 84-day reign with the championship.

Orton, meanwhile, cracked Rhyno with an RKO after The Man Beast had become distracted by Wyatt to earn a second reign as a Tag Team Champion, having previously held the twin straps with Edge in late 2006 and 2007.

Wyatt, though, is now holding his maiden belt in WWE – three years after he debuted on the main roster.

Elsewhere, The Miz retained the Intercontinental Championship following a high-octane Ladder Match with long-time nemesis Dolph Ziggler.

The Awesome One – who at one point in the contest was left hanging from the title – frequently targeted Ziggler’s leg, with the tactic finally paying dividends as Ziggler slipped from the ladder.

Baron Corbin beat Kalisto in an excellent Chairs Match, the big man withstanding a barrage from the masked marvel, including a senton through a throng of seats, to win with an End of Days onto a pile of chairs.

Plus, Nikki Bella defeated Carmella in a No Disqualification Match thanks to a venomous roundhouse kick off the barricade, a kendo stick and a burst with a fire extinguisher.

Bella was given food for thought post-match, though, when Carmella insisted Natalya had attacked her at last month’s Survivor Series pay-per-view, a claim the Canadian flatly denies.
