In such a situation, the public can get some relief from buying expensive oil soon. Last year, the government had set a target of 10 per cent ethanol blending in petrol by 2022, then increasing the ethanol blending amount to 20 per cent by 2030. Earlier this year it was shifted to 2025 instead of 2030 and now it has been shifted to April, 2023.

India’s third largest oil importer
India is the world’s third largest oil importer and relies on foreign suppliers for 85% of its demand. To achieve the required target, 10 billion liters of ethanol would be required.
