New Delhi: Now you will not have to wait in a long queue at the railway station to take tickets anymore. Indian Railways, which recently took a major decision to provide to train tickets through ATMs. According to media reports, in 2016, the railways with State Bank of India had launched a pilot project whose results are beginning to show now. According to reports, based on the discussions between the Railway Board and officials of the State Bank of India, the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) has started to prepare the software.
General tickets can be booked through the ATM. ATMs of SBI will be upgraded via software so they can get tickets, like notes.
That being said, however, the railways want to make this as soon as possible to enable people and so talks are being considered between major bank to install automatic ticket vending (ATV) machines.
Recently, Tatanagar railway station in Jharkhand installed SBI automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs). Which enable public to get train tickets. The ATM prints paper ticket this is eligible for travel. According to reports in the media, even if you do not have a debit card, you can get the ticket because the ticket vending machine has the option to insert coins or notes.
