The government has made a big announcement for sugarcane farmers on Wednesday. The government today said that it has increased the FRP of sugarcane i.e. Fair and Remunerative Price. This decision has been taken in the cabinet. Now the FRP on sugarcane has been increased to Rs 290 per quintal. Earlier this price was Rs 285 per quintal, that is, it has been increased by Rs 5 per quintal. Explain that the FRP of sugarcane is the minimum price at which the sugar mill owners buy sugarcane from the farmers.

According to the government, 5 crore sugarcane farmers will benefit from this decision. At the same time, this will also benefit the sugar mills and about 5 lakh other laborers associated with this work.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal made several announcements in this regard by holding a press conference today. He informed that the Union Cabinet has increased the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane by Rs 5 to Rs 290 per quintal for 2021-22.

He also told that the government is aiming to increase the production of ethanol.

Regarding the arrears of farmers, he said that at present, sugarcane farmers in Uttar Pradesh have arrears of Rs 6399 crore, which is about one-third as compared to earlier. Between 2017 and 2020, the sugarcane given by the farmers to the sugar mills is now unpaid. He told that the total payment to sugarcane farmers in 2020-2021 was between 90 to 91,000 crores. After the cabinet’s decision to increase the FRP of sugar cane next year, payment of up to one lakh crore rupees to sugarcane farmers will be possible.
