0

A Noida-based company Ringing Bells launched the world’s cheapest smartphone Freedom 251 on Wednesday during the ‘Make in India’ week. India being the second largest market for mobiles, the cheapest phone has been introduced to cater consumers looking for loss budget phones. This is perhaps the first phone from the company at such a low price.

Priced at Rs. 251, Freedom 251 is a lookalike of Apple iPhone and has 4 inches (10.2 cms) qHD IPS display. It has both front and rear cameras. With 8 GB internal storage and 1 GB RAM, the smartphone has pre-installed applications including Swachh Bharat, Women Safety, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Farmer, Medical and Fisherman.

While sharing about Freedom 251, Ringing Bells President Ashok Chadha explained in an exclusive interview with IBNLive the idea through which they made a phone costing around Rs 2500 available at a price of Rs 251.

He explained that “the company will pass on the 13.8 percent duty protection (around Rs 450-Rs 470) for Make in India to the customer. And they will be saving an additional Rs 530 from the economies of scale which theoretically will bring down the costs. Another Rs 460 is said to be saved from marketing and selling costs as the company is largely opting for online sales”.

After the deductions, the price of Freedom 251 amounted to Rs 800. However, the company planned to sell it Rs 251, irrespective of the loss. The Indian firm intends to recover the difference through the profits it will make by selling the phone. Nevertheless, if the smartphone reviews turn out to good, then it will certainly succeed in making a mark in the market and creating a brand for itself.
Till now, the smartphone has created the frenzy among users so much that the server got overloaded and the website crashed.

The deal seems like a risk worth taking. So, how’s your Freedom 251? Do share your reviews!
