Monsoon reached Mumbai, spread to all parts of Maharashtra

Mumbai: Southwest monsoons finally reached Mumbai and spread to many parts of Maharashtra including Pune and Nashik districts. Sunita Devi, director of the Indian Meteorological Department, Pune, said today that South-West monsoon spread across Konkan region including Mumbai. It reached Pune and Nashik districts in North Central Maharashtra. In Maharashtra it has only reached Parbhani district.

He said that monsoon will reach now in remaining Maharashtra. Sunita said that conditions are not conducive to the monsoon’s progress. It will take three to four days to move northwards. Therefore, IMD has not issued specific alerts or warnings right now.

On the other hand, the monsoon in Kolkata has reached today three days before the scheduled time, due to which the hopes of rains have increased. Regional Weather Director GK Das said that most of the sub-Himalayas of Southwest Monsoon reached West Bengal and Sikkim. He said that there is a possibility of heavy rains in Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts of North Bengal.
