Indian Women Ice Hockey Team Won its First Ever International Match

The Indian Women ice hockey team sets new history on Thursday. In the Asian Championship Tournament, Indian Women Ice Hockey won its first ever international match against the Philippines held in Bangkok. The Indian Women Ice Hockey team defeated the Philippines in the Challenge Cup of Asia fixture by 4-3. Earlier on Tuesday, the UAE defeated India 4-6.

In the first period, no team could score a goal. In the second period, India scored the first goal and went up by 1-0. In the third period, the aggressive goals were scored. Both teams scored 3-3 goals against each other. Chuskit and Dolma were amongst the scorers for India.

Women Ice Hockey has not got much priority in India. The condition is that the team did not receive any financial help from the government to go into this tournament. Thanks to 3000 donors who helped the team for training, tickets, visas and jerseys and other accessories. In India, this game is played mostly in Leh, Ladakh and Kargil districts of Kashmir. Earlier, the Indian team also participated in the Ice Hockey Asia Challenge Cup in 2016, but could not win a single match.

The IIHH Challenge Cup in Asia is a series of international ice hockey tournaments organised in Asia. This program was first organised in Hong Kong in 2008. The motive of the tournament is to provide competitive opportunities for Asian teams who are either in the lower division of the IHF World Championship or do not compete in the world championship.
