192 Crore Sanctioned for Smart City Project

Today Union Urban Development Ministry sanctioned 192 crores for 96 cities under Smart City project. Each city will get two crores for city planning. A senior official of the Ministry of Urban Development said, “Rs2 crores provided for each city is meant for preparation of city level Smart City Plans with the assistance of technical and hand holding agencies “.

In the next three months, the city level plans are to be submitted to the Urban Development Ministry for evaluation for selecting the top 20 rankers for extending financial support to the current fiscal year.

Last week government have announced the list of 98 cities including Delhi and Chandigarh under the smart city project. Find out the cities under Smart City Project

He also said fund for Delhi and Chandigarh would be approved by the Home Ministry shortly. While one city each from Jammu & Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, are yet to be identified for inclusion in the smart city project. Sanction order was issued to the Representatives of 38 smart cities from 11 states, who took part in the regional workshop.

The government has earmarked Rs 48 thousand crores for Smart City project, and the same amount is expected to be contributed by the State Governments and urban local bodies to develop 100 smart cities across the country

Workshops were conducted in Ashok Hotel in New Delhi. During a seminar, various aspects were discussed for the development of selected cities as the smart city. Many foreign experts shared their experiences on the Smart City Action Plan by addressing the delegates at the workshop.
